APM teams cleanup beaches

-

Auckland property management company APM held a beach cleanup at Point Chevalier to mark Earth Day and support Sustainable Coastlines, a charity the company sponsors.

The team spent a few hours on Point Chevalier beach and collected several bags of plastic and litter waste from around the coastline.

The most prevalent were small bits of plastic, polystyrene balls, cigarette butts, lollipop sticks and broken glass.

As the local Point Chevalier community hold their own beach cleans there wasn’t much visible rubbish, so APM focused not just on the big and visible litter, but also the smaller micro pieces that have been in our sea and washed ashore that are not as noticeable.

Waiheke Island based team members of APM also did a cleanup at Oneroa Beach.

APM became a sponsor of Sustainable Coastlines last year after feedback from staff about wanting to support an environmentally focused organisation.

APM chose Sustainable Coastlines because many people in their team spend time at the beach or live near the beach, fish in the surrounding water, and care about New Zealand’s environment. Sustainable Coastlines fits the description, and it has been a partnership that apm is pleased to continue with.

‘‘We are proud to support

Sustainable Coastlines as an organisation that cares for our sea and coastlines,’’ says the managing director of APM, Bill Highet.

‘‘Being able to get together as a team and ‘walk the talk’ is a valuable experience and it feels good to have a positive impact on our local environment. We have beautiful beaches in New Zealand so it’s good to be part of the behavioural change and see firsthand the impact humans have on the coast.

‘‘We make a donation to the Sustainable Coastlines charity with every new property signed up to our services, so we want to thank our clients for making this support possible.’’

APM thanked Sustainable Coastlines for providing the gear, and helping host the cleanup. The company encouraged all beach attendees to pay attention to the rubbish at their local beach and take part in reducing the pollution.

APM is the trading name of Auckland Property Management and specialises in residential, commercial, bodies corporate, residents’ associations, and Waiheke Island holiday home property management.

Epsom’s FreshChoice supermarket will be hosting a community talent quest.

The idea for the event comes from FreshChoice Epsom coowners, husband and wife Juliet Monaghan and Chris Harris, who say they share a passion for travel and have drawn inspiration from European concepts that mix supermarkets with farmers’ markets.

‘‘A marketplace is the heart of a community, where people can catch up with friends and neighbors while they shop. That’s the vision we have for FreshChoice Epsom,’’ Monaghan says.

In line with this vision, she came up with the talent quest to further engage the community – hosting it in the supermarket lobby. The store will host the Community Talent Quest every Saturday until June, from 10am to noon.

What makes this talent quest different is that the winner will be chosen by the shoppers, giving the local community a chance to have their say and show support for their preferred performers.

In addition, performances will be showcased on TV screens in the store, allowing shoppers to relive the highlights and make informed voting decisions.

Monaghan and Harris say they are excited to showcase the talents of community members.
