Urban attitude
What a superb summing-up letter written by Katie Kenyon to the PM about the urban attitude to the primary sector producers ( CHB Mail, Talking Point, April 8).
I amsure the huge majority of NZ’s primary producers would agree with her whole-heartedly.
Thank you Katie, you would seem to be a huge asset to the farming industry.
If I could add to her observations, here are some extra facts.
It seems the NZ economy is now more focused on people specialising in cutting the cake into ever smaller pieces (with more being lost in wasted crumbs) than growing the cake bigger for everyone to get a fair share.
The reality is that forestry is rapidly becoming a considerably more profitable land use than farming livestock (and in some cases crops), a point that is unlikely to be realised by the urban antagonists until their often misguided calls for getting rid of livestock in favour of perfect clean water results in the lack of real milk to put in their lattes, just for starters.
But perhaps not to worry, their vegan extremism may be soon be rewarded with a low protein radiata salad, log stew and pine cone dessert.
By then, they may have realised they shouldn’t have criticised farmers with their mouths’ full.
