School marks 150th
Past students and teachers from Otane School and community members have taken a trip down memory lane in the lead-up to the school's 150th jubilee celebrations being held over Labour weekend later this year.
Recently, Mary and Roger Wakefield gifted the school's jubilee committee a collection of memoirs, journals and photographs taken during their time teaching at the school in the early 1980s.
Mementoes included photographs of class visits to the Otane Post Office, the transfer of one of the three Otane churches to Camp David, and the opening of a bilingual unit at the school.
Jubilee chairwoman Pam Kupa thanked the Wakefields for sharing the collection and allowing the community to reminisce about days past.
“The Otane School has touched so many lives over the past 150 years. The committee is very honoured to be a part of celebrating such a wonderful milestone in October this year.”
The committee is urging interested past and present students, teachers and wha¯ nau members to register early and secure their place.
