Car break-ins and burglaries

- BY GLYNN SHARP Community Constable

Sometime between July 12 and 19, Waipawa Primary School’s caretaker’s shed was broken into and a wheelbarrow, wheelie bin and a lawn mower were stolen.

Also in Waipawa, a resident in the Kingston Pl area heard their back door being tried in the early hours of the morning. On speaking to a neighbour the next day, she learned that the neighbour’s door had been found open but fortunately it was on a safety chain so no entry was gained. This is a neighbourhood populated by retirees, which makes it particularly disturbing.

There has been quite a bit of suspicious behaviour occurring in Waipawa over the past few weeks with evidence of homes being entered, but nothing stolen. Please make sure that all of your doors and windows are secure when you go to bed at night and if you go out during the day.

Two cars were broken into and property stolen in Waipukurau over July 17 and 18. Two juvenile offenders were apprehended and will be dealt with by Youth Aid.

A car was stolen from a Gaisford Tce address on July 16. The victim reported that the car contained several items of property including school uniforms.

A tradesman’s trailer was stolen from his business address in Ruataniwha street in Waipukurau overnight on July 15-16. The registration number is 3S225. It has a steel cage on the deck and is silver in colour.

Anyone who can assist with our enquiries related to these offences, please contact the Waipukurau police.
