Swap seeds and share your gardening ideas

-

The CHB Permaculture Group is about to start off another season with an annual seed swap meeting this Sunday afternoon. Member Donna Hossack said the permaculture group usually took a short hiatus over the cooler months before commencing monthly meetings from late winter to early autumn.

“We have an exciting schedule planned for the upcoming months,” she said.

“We usually start the season with a seed swap and planning session on growing our seed bank. It’s a great opportunity to meet other people, share your excess seeds, and get some inspiration on how to plan your garden for spring time. Now is the time to plan, especially if you’re hoping to save seed from some of the more difficult varieties,” she said

The CHB Permaculture Group has been running for 10 years and meet at the homes of various members. Members range from complete novices to those who have been working towards permaculture principals for decades, Donna said.

“I find it really inspiring to go to someone’s house and get a range of ideas and see how other people do things. It also really puts things into perspective to know that these things can take time!”

Louise Phillips, who has been involved with the group since it inception, said it was great to see more movement on the sustainability front from CHB residents in recent years.

“Permaculture principals revolve around three ethics — Earth care, people care and fair share — and our events try to incorporate that. It’s been great to see our group grow over the years and we always welcome new faces.”

The CHB Permaculture Group meetings are open to everyone. For details of meetings and more information see the CHB Permaculture Group Facebook page or contact Donna 027-588-7756 or Louise 027-876-5085.
