Higgins retains landfill contract

Central Hawke’s Bay District Council has awarded operation of its landfill to existing contractor Higgins Contractings Limited.

The new contract supports the recent appointment of new contractor Smart Environmental Limited for the district’s kerbside collection and the District’s transfer stations. Higgins has operated the landfill since it opened in 1996 and also provides roading construction from a depot in Waipukurau.

It is the third major procurement completed by the District Council this year.

Higgins manager Dick Hurae says the company is looking forward to working collaboratively with the council’s recently appointed strategic contract partners.

“We are really excited about this opportunity,” said Hurae.

“We have high expectations and look forward to working with the local Higgins team to deliver this step change for the Central Hawke’s Bay community,” Acting chief executive Doug Tate said.
