Community called to clean up river mess
A large amount of baleage wrap has been spread over many kilometres of the upper Tuituki River and a call is going out to CHB locals to help with a cleanup.
The HBRC has done some cleaning up already, but there are still large amounts of plastic in the river bed and on vegetation.
On behalf of the CHB Branch of Forest and Bird, Ashley Clinton resident Clint Deckard is arranging a working bee in conjunction with HBRC to help clean up the rest of the plastic.
“It’s going to take a lot effort from a lot of people to deal with this,” Clint says.
The event is on Sunday, November 4, from 10am to 12.30pm and participants will need to take along a pocket knife or similar to cut the plastic from vegetation and a spade to dig it from the river gravel.
Due to river crossings it is not really suitable for children.
