Two-year-old boy drowns

Police and emergency services were called to the scene of a reported drowning in Waipukurau just before 3pm on October 23.

A young boy, aged 2 years old, was reported to have drowned in a residential swimming pool. The toddler has since been named as Costyn Tawa Hema. A Givealittle page has been set up to support the family. The family friend who set up the page described the toddler as shy, but a character. “He was loved and cherished by all.”

Costyn’s death will be referred to the coroner.
