Team helps building CHB resilience

-

Health professionals, the Ministry of Education and Central Hawke’s Bay schools have teamed up to bring to CHB a free parent and community evening which focuses on building resilience.

The event has been organised following similar successful events in Hawke’s Bay, which have discussed why resilience is so important in today’s changing world.

Resilience is the ability to bounce back and move forward from periods of change and adversity, stress and trauma, loss, disappointment and also the strain and intensity of living in today’s world.

CHB’s school principals say they have have recognised that resilience is an important tool for youth, as it brings the ability to be more flexible, adaptable and productive in their lives.

Guest speakers at the event will be Ashley Macpherson, a clinical psychologist who helps people to understand their issues and explore more positive ways of coping and relating. Edmond Otis has developed a programme used in Hawke’s Bay schools called Let’s Make Me Resilient.

They will be joined by Dr Russell Wills, the medical director of Quality Improvement Patient Safety at the HBDHB.

A panel of health and educational leaders will also be available for a question and answer session as part of the evening.

■ “Thriving Through Change, Challenge and Stress” is being held on Thursday November 1 at 6.30 in the Central Hawke’s Bay College Hall. Entry is free.
