A vintage day out for car enthusiasts

-

A crowd of vintage car enthusiasts from as far afield as Auckland, Whakata¯ ne, and Martinborough travelled to Waikareao Station, Pukehou, last month as part of the Hawke’s Bay Vintage Car Club Annual Tour.

The weather turned on a prefect day for a picnic at Waikareao Station were the crowd learnt about the history of the farm and homestead.

The owners Trish and Steve Anstis, as fairly new owners, asked long-time local Peter Coleman to give a talk on the station’s history.

The crowd enjoyed the park-like surrounds of rose gardens and orchards — with the pool surrounded by roses.

The Hawke’s Bay Vintage Car Club paid to enter the property and Trish and Steve donated the proceeds of $550 to the Hawke’s Bay rescue helicopter.

Helen Ball of the HBVCC gave the Anstis’ top marks for all they had done to bring the rose garden back to life.
