A two-year project came to fruition last month when members of the Waipukurau Rotary club unveiled a memorial to its past presidents.

Club members gathered at the Arboretum (Forest of Memories) on Pukeora Scenic Road, Waipukurau to carry out some tree maintenance to unveil the Past Presidents beam, which has name plaques of all presidents from 1943 until 2010.

The beam and plaques are near the redwood trees and adjacent to the road.

The Rotary club was formed in 1943 with AW Carpenter was its first president. This year is the 75th year that the club has been operating.

The beam was unveiled by two of the oldest past presidents — Kevin Pike and Barrie Mabin.
