Call going out for active groups
Are you part of a group that keeps you active?
Sport Hawke’s Bay is looking for groups to be part of the 2019 CHB Active Hub on Wednesday, April 3.
This event showcases all the great things CHB has to offer to the community to encourage and increase physical activity for improved community well-being.
Interested groups are invited to run an activity, info station or a demonstration during the event.
Sport Hawke’s Bay’s community sport advisor for CHB Nicki Heremaia says this year she wants groups to take over the whole of Russell Park.
“We want to cover every aspect of activity in CHB, from walking, cycling and riding groups, boot camps to pre-school activities, Enliven, Active Kiwis . . . we want variety and something for everyone.
“I’d love to see the whole park covered, from the Memorial Hall to the Centralines Sports Park, the playground and the skate bowl with a huge range of activities, info stations and demonstrations, bringing everyone together in one place with a focus on moving, fun, enjoyment and connection for all ages, stages and abilities.
“For some organisations it may not be possible for people to participate in your specific sport or normal activity, (abseiling, rifle shooting, bowls, billiards etc). However this event is a chance to chat and engage with members of the community you wouldn’t generally get to meet, or promote an upcoming event or holiday program. So I really encourage groups to think outside the box and get creative, I am happy to have a chat and help brainstorm on ideas — the only pre-requisite is that it gets people moving,” Nicki says.
The event is not about competitive sports.
“It’s about moving. If you have a group that encourages gardening, dog training, horse riding, dancing . . . join in and promote what you do. We want to showcase a host of different types of groups.”
So far groups involved include Sport Hawke’s Bay, Epic Ministries, CHB Council, Te Tai Whenua o Heretaunga, Aqua Management, CHB College, HB Orienteering, Back Paddock Lakes, CHB Visitor Information Centre, Enliven, Pickleball HB, Waipukurau Rotary River Pathways Trust, Brain Injury HB and the CHB Active Kiwis Group.
