THUMBS UP & DOWN

-

■ Thumbs up: A huge thank you to Dom at the Copperpot, Lisa from Zinc, Countdown and EIT Waipukurau for their generosity and support toward our CHB BPW fundraiser. Also to the CHB public for attending on such a busy evening in CHB. Last but not least our wonderful guest speaker, Dr Roger Maaka. Thank your for sharing what you do and are doing in CHB. Without all of your support our event would not have been so successful. Nga¯ mihi nui.

■ Thumbs up: Thank you all from Mumma G's for assisting me from a fall in front of Waipawa Library. Also Marjon who went the extra mile for me.

■ Thumbs up: To Waipukurau School and especially Kathryn Donnithorne for organising a wonderful VIP morning. It was great to see students and teachers enjoying a morning of fun and learning with family and friends. Thank you for the morning tea and great to see community spirit is alive and well!

■ Thumbs up: Many thanks to Lionel Benjamin from Laben photography for helping the Tikokino School senior hockey team with some training and support Wednesday 16th June.

■ Thumbs up: To Kirsty Lawrence and the Waipukurau Jockey Club for making the Waipukurau Racecourse yards available to keep horses safe during the Matariki fireworks display. Thumbs up also to the organisers for the letterbox drop so most owners could make their pets secure for the evening.

■ Thumbs down: To the person in the bright-blue ute who on Sat afternoon drove at speed past three horses being ridden on the side verge along Pukeora Scenic Road. You must have seen one horse had a small child on board and was on a lead rein. I signalled for you to slow down and you totally ignored the warning. Please show consideration for horses and slow down! Speeding vehicles spook horses, as mine were. People and horses get hurt and killed, you may also be killed if my horse goes through your windscreen!

■ To have your say on what's made you smile or frown this week, send your thumbs up or thumbs down to editorial@chbmail.co.nz, message CHB Mail on Facebook, phone us on 06 858 8166 or come in and write it down old-school style on a piece of paper. Thumbs will be printed — or not — at the editor's discretion. No personal attacks or defamatory thumbs will be printed.
