Witnesses to accident sought
Police are looking for witnesses after a pedestrian was struck by a logging truck in Waipukurau on Tuesday. CHB police officer in charge Sergeant Neil Baker says at about 11.20am a pedestrian was struck by a logging truck while crossing the road on Herbert St with the intersection of Ruataniwha St.
As a result a 79-year-old woman was airlifted to the HB Hospital by the Lowe Walker Rescue Helicopter where she was treated for her injuries.
She is currently in a stable condition with a number of injuries and is being supported by family who are with her.
The crash closed part of Herbert St for four hours and is being investigated by the Police Serious Crash Team along with the Commercial Vehicle Safety team.
The truck driver has been spoken to police and is helping them with their inquiry.
Police would like to hear from any witnesses to the incident and ask the public to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Police would also like to offer support to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, found it traumatic
and would like to discuss it further. The Waipukurau crash comes just days after a two-vehicle head-on crash on State Highway 2 north of Otane last Thursday afternoon which required two people to be taken to hospital with serious
injuries, and a second head-on crash on Pourerere Rd, Waipawa, on Friday morning which resulted in no serious injuries. Police are urging both motorists and pedestrians to again take care and exercise caution in and around CHB especially in built up areas.
