Nominations for event open next week

-

Sport Hawke’s Bay will open nominations for the CHB Mail Central Hawke’s Bay Sports Awards next week. Nominations open on August 9, with the gala dinner to be held on November 5 at the AW Parsons Indoor Stadium.

Covid-19 impacted a number of events in 2020 but the community came together to put on the 2020 awards ceremony.

Central Hawke’s Bay Community Sport Adviser Nicki Heremaia says: “The awards are always a special occasion, it was great to bring the community together last year and we are really excited to do it once again.

“It is important to celebrate alongside one another to recognise athletes and those that give their valuable time to contribute to sport and recreation within the region.”

Nominations will be accepted from national and regional sports organisations, clubs, schools, media and the general public.

“For these awards to be a success, we really need the support of the community. The best way to do that is to nominate. Without nominations, we simply are not able to celebrate the great success of our sporting community,” Heremaia says.

2020 saw the CHB Mail Sportsperson of the year being awarded for the first time to powerlifter Luke Wright, following Blair Tickner in 2019 and Regan Gough between 2015-2018.

The overall Sportsperson of the Year Award will be decided from the Junior Male and Female, Masters, Senior Male and Female Sportsperson of the Year and Junior and Senior Team of the Year winners.
