Pilates: building strong bodies from the inside out.

Pilates CHB studio has recently celebrated its 4th birthday. The team have been quietly working away in their large and airy studio, behind the Betta Electrical shop, helping people to become stronger, more flexible and just move better.

Pilates is an exercise method that can be practiced by almost anyone. From the basic Mat classes, using just body weight, to the full range of ingenious equipment, originally developed by Joseph Pilates to assist people in performing his exercises.

Ideal for returning to exercise, Pilates helps to build up basic strength through the entire body from the inside out. It is also great for anyone who is about to go into surgery or recovering from an operation, as the exercises can be modified to suit the person’s abilities. With the assistance of the Pilates machines, support and resistance can be given as needed.

Unique to Pilates CHB is their Studio Pilates classes. These classes provide a supported pathway for clients wanting individual attention but at a group class cost.

Sharon and Doug Upperton are regulars at Pilates CHB studio, having recently undergone a knee replacemen­t and a hip replacemen­t, respective­ly. Their weekly Studio Pilates session was a vital part of preparing for their surgery and recovering from it. Using the specialize­d Pilates equipment enabled their instructor to modify the range of movement and the resistance (or assistance) needed to make the exercises attainable and comfortabl­e for them to do. This has allowed them to quickly improve their strength and mobility and get back to their normal activities including keeping up with the grandchild­ren.

The Pilates CHB team are experience­d and internatio­nally certified instructor­s who are proud to be able to provide Central Hawkes Bay with the full Pilates experience from dynamic Reformer and Mat group classes for those seeking an active and challengin­g exercise class, through to empathetic one on one and small group instructio­n to help you deal with the physical challenges of injury and ageing.
