Tūturiwhatu population doubles - Good news! We commissioned the first coastal bird survey of the entire Hawke’s Bay coastline, and it found the New Zealand dotterel population has doubled in our region over the last ten years. Find out more at hbrc.govt.nz, search #coastecology
Priority ecosystems - We are protecting five more indigenous forest areas across nearly 375 hectares through deer fencing, and pest control. This will help native plants, bird and insect life to flourish. Find out more at hbrc.govt.nz, search: #biodiversity
Birch Hill - We’re deer fencing and controlling predators in this 28.5 hectare black beech, Tawa, Rimu, and Kaimahi forest on private land in the Pōrangahau catchment, home to the falcon, whitehead, red crowned kākāriki and longtail bat.
Predator Free Hawke’s Bay - We are proud to be involved in this inspiring multi-partner project, covering Poutiri Ao ō Tāne north of Napier, Cape to City and Whakatipu Māhia. As a co-investor, we have enabled 35,000 hectares of predator suppresion and 15,000 hectares of possum eradication. Find out more at pfhb.nz

- We are currently reviewing the possum control programme and will consult with the public in July this year about how we can change the programme to continue the successful suppression of numbers.
