THUMBS UP & DOWN

-

■ Thumbs up: to my amazing boy Hezekiah and his friend Dylan who saved an older gentleman’s life the other day when he suffered a bad seizure along the side of the road by St Joseph’s Church. Not only did they rush to his aid but they kept him safe and warm. The boys rang the ambulance and gave clear instructions and listened carefully to the operator while waiting for them to arrive. This was all in the rain. We do hope the man is feeling better and hope for a speedy recovery. Ka pai boys! We are so proud of you!

■ Thumbs up: to the organisers and participants of the Hatuma Half Marathon — great to see these events back better than ever and dodging the rain too.

■ Thumbs up: to the CHB Ross Shield coaches, managers and players. They’ve had a great lead-up to tournament week, creating an awesome team culture! Wishing them all the best for their games.

■ Thumbs up: to Johnson Electrical. Great prompt service. I needed a new car battery and they had one available and fitted within half an hour of me ringing them.

■ Thumbs up: to Takapau Lions and quiz masters Thomas and Kate Taylor for a very entertaining Quiz Night last Friday raising money for two great local causes.

■ Thumbs up: to every employee with Age Concern CHB, the work they all do is priceless and always appreciated.

■ Thumbs up: to Megan who left a note about a graze on my car in the New World carpark.

■ Thumbs down: to truck drivers that park across the front of the ambulance station to go buy a pie. If we can’t get out we can’t help your families.

■ Thumbs down: to all the pot holes that have magically appeared with all this rain but a massive Thumbs up to our local Downer team that continue to get out there in the coldest wet days and at all hours to try and prep and fix the roads to the best of their ability to make them as safe as possible to continue to use and drive on in all those weather conditions. You guys are awesome.

■ Thumbs down: to my lawns who thinks it’s okay to grow back like I never mowed them.

■ Thumbs down: to all this never ending rain and mud!

■ Thumbs down: to the person who lights a fire every weekend and puts a on of green rubbish on and smokes out the neighbourhood. I am sick of smokey smelling washing.

■ Thumbs down: to the appalling amount, and depth, of potholes on the new Silverstream/Pukehou road.
