Sam­ples taken of Mil­ton’s dis­coloured wa­ter show that it is E coli free.

How­ever, the cause of the town’s dirty wa­ter is still clouded in mys­tery, with the Clutha District Coun­cil as yet un­able to as­cer­tain the rea­son for the dis­coloura­tion.

About a week ago, res­i­dents be­gan to note and com­plain about the colour of their tap wa­ter.

Since then, coun­cil staff had been try­ing to iso­late the prob­lem, a coun­cil spokesper­son said. mains had been flushed more than once.

Con­trac­tors had changed one of the main pipe con­fig­u­ra­tions to see if this made a dif­fer­ence. the af­fected ar­eas.
