Williamson Park

In reply to Shaun Fay’s letter (Coastal News, Jan 18) re Shapeshifter concert. For us who live near Williamson Park, we had a very different experience with the event.

We had young people, very intoxicated from ‘pre-loading’, vomiting and urinating in our gardens and up driveways.

The concert went past 10.45pm and in fact it was noisy until 2.38am with barriers etc being dismantled.

It would be interesting to know official noise levels as this seemed excessive.

Branches were broken off trees and gardens trampled in the park. Litter was left everywhere — I have picked up bags of it — small plastic pieces, cigarette butts etc; just what we don’t want in our stormwater and consequently in our beautiful Whangamata sea.

I knew Mr Williamson personally and feel it’s such an insult to his generosity for the park to be used and abused in this way. JILLIAN MORRIS
