Beware sea lice

A family who went swimming at the Otahu Estuary last Friday went home with hundreds of sea lice bites. The reader said they “suffered big time” and an antihistamine cream was their only option for relief. Others reported on Coastal News’ Facebook page that the sea lice were widespread — at Waihi Beach, Whiritoa and Whangamata wharf — and were believed to be microscopic jellyfish.
