The Whangamata Area School is about to launch its second album, titled Whanga Unplugged.

In 2017 the school released its first album, Sandy Shores, which was an album complete with original content created by the talented students from the school.

One of those songs won them a brand new piano, which they have been enjoying the use of this past year.

Whanga Unplugged 2018 is a laid-back acoustic album that brings the vibes of Whangamata to music, given its name.

The songs have been written by students from Year 5 to 13.

Jessica Crockett, the producer of the album and itinerary music teacher, says “The students have thoroughly enjoyed learning music this year because they are encouraged to be creative.

“These kind of projects boost confidence in our students because they become focused on learning a skill while taking creativity into their own hands,” Jessica said.

■ Whanga Unplugged is being sold at the school office for $10 and you can also buy the Sandy Shores album there. The album will be released on Spotify soon.
