Blaz­ing sun ush­ers in a new year

Sum­mer Se­ries. The Sum­mer Se­ries events in­cluded the King of the Moun­tain, triathlon, Barry Wade Pauanui Fam­ily Sports Day and colour run, which was a huge hit with fam­i­lies, among nu­mer­ous other events (see sport). The surf gods played their part in putting on an ex­hil­a­rat­ing can­vas for the Jan­uary 2 Surf Boat Spec­tac­u­lar Spon­sored by Unichem Phar­macy Whanga­mata¯ and Maui Jim.

The first week of 2019 proved to be un­beat­able weath­er­wise for or­gan­is­ers of all out­door events, though this year was qui­eter than usual at Wil­liamson Park due to its clo­sure for night-time con­certs af­ter a re­source con­sent hear­ing held in late 2018 (Coastal News 29 No­vem­ber 2018) .

The Bring­ing Coun­try to the Beach free con­cert was hosted at the Whanga­mata RSA on Jan­uary 2 which was a huge hit.

“It was so pop­u­lar,” says Re­nee Meik­le­john of the Whanga­mata Sum­mer Fes­ti­val in­cor­po­rated so­ci­ety.
