CHINESE FOOD often carries a stigma associated with cheap takeaways and questionable health and safety practises. Huami, on SKYCITY’S Federal St dining precinct is re-defining what Chinese cuisine means in New Zealand, through authentic and traditional dishes that feature a modern twist. Now into it’s second year, behind the big red doors at Huami we continue to showcase what premium Chinese cuisine is.

New executive chef Raymond Xue brings over 40 years of cooking knowledge to the lazy susan. Huami prides itself on providing authentic Chinese cuisine that derives its taste and flavours from traditional parts of China. Raymond has a strong understanding of the different cultures from the country’s regions, which helps to meet the guests need for authenticity. With roots in Shanghai, he provides the most authentic Shanghainess (East China) style cuisine, as well as experience crafting traditional Cantonese (South China) cooking. This mix of knowledge and experience brings together the best flavours of what Chinese people know and understand, delivering it to a New Zealand market that is longing for new flavours to discover. Signature dishes include locally sourced produce and live ocean cuisine - the freshest seafood imaginable. From tank to plate. The stewed New Zealand abalone, pan-fried scallop, black truffle is amazing, or try the steamed blue cod with a light soy sauce. For a taste of New Zealand, you can’t go past the crispy New Zealand lamb rack, marinated in Manuka Honey glaze and sweet plumb sauce.

To match the knowledge from the kitchen, New Zealand’s 2018 Sommelier of year Marek Przyborek is on hand to guide you through the extensive wine list, ensuring you receive the perfect wine that enhances and works with the flavour of the food. Marek was also a semi-finalist at the 2018 Best Sommelier of Asia and Oceania in Kyoto

If it’s something a little stronger you are after, Huami has an exclusive range of armagnac, cognac and whisky as well as a specially developed cocktail list. If you want a true taste of China, discover the largest range of Maotai (Baijiu) in New Zealand. Maotai is a Chinese spirit that is the most consumed spirit in the world. Enjoy neat in traditional vases and ornate glasses, or in one of our Maotai infused cocktails.
