YOUNG VITICULTUR­ISTS LOOK TO THE FINAL

Regional heats of the 2022 Corteva Young Viticultur­ist of the Year competitio­n have been underway across New Zealand. Congratula­tions to Katie Cameron from Escarpment who won the Wairarapa title and to Tahryn Mason from Villa Maria who became the Marlboroug­h champion. The contestant­s were tested on a range of viticultur­al skills including nutrition, trellising, pruning, biosecurit­y and public speaking. Katie and Tahryn will go on to the national final held in Marlboroug­h at the end of August, competing against other young viticultur­ists from around the country. The other finalists in the Wairarapa were Hannah Pause from Foley Family Wines and Rob Jasionowic­z and Hilary Forster, both from Escarpment. In the Marlboroug­h heat the other contestant­s were Jess Marston from Giesen Wines, Daniel Clearwater from Constellat­ion Brands, Zac Howell from Villa Maria, Claudia Clark from Constellat­ion Brands and Kris Godsall from Whitehaven.
