APD has unique New Zealand solutions

Locally-owned Advanced Plastics and Design (APD) is only one of two companies in New Zealand with an approved Code of Practice to fabricate Chemical Storage Tanks to HSNO Standards. APD can provide HSNO compliant tanks up to 60,000L for a range of class 5, 6, 8 and 9 chemicals. APD provides solutions in plastics and strives for high quality and customer service within the industry.

When a church in New Lynn (Auckland) more than doubled the f loor space of its facilities by placing another building on its land and connecting it with the existing building, it was required to install 20,000 litres (20m3) of stormwater detention capacity due to the increase of non-permeable surface coverage on the site. APD was selected as the tank supplier and APD StormLite underground stormwater tanks were specified to satisfy the stormwater detention requirement.

Two 10,000 litre (10m3) tanks, each weighing 375 kg, were designed to be installed as a connected pair to achieve the required volume due to site restrictions. Tanks were delivered to site by HIAB crane truck and lifted into their final position on site by a digger once the excavation work was completed.

An even more serious solution was needed as part of the upgrade at the Waikato Water Treatment Plant. Brian Perry Civil is replacing five of the bulk storage chemical tanks with HazSure Chemical Tanks, which have been designed in accordance BS EN 12573 for fabricated tanks and APD’s approved COP 4-2.

The tanks, which will store sodium bisulfite, sulphuric acid, citric acid and sodium hydroxide, range in size from 1,800L to 11,500L and all tanks have a side entry manway for ease of access, due to site restrictions.
