Engineering New Zealand’s Wonder Project initiative could be the thing for you.

The project is the professional body’s programme to get the next generation excited about a career in science, technology, engineering and maths. It’s about sparking wonder in STEM from a young age, building confidence, and having all young

Kiwis believing they can achieve remarkable things.

Over 6– 8 weeks in Term 2, Year 5– 8 students will work with their teacher and Wonder Project Ambassador to design, build, and launch their very own water rocket. Schools will be paired with STEM professionals to support their teaching and provide resources to successfully run the programme.

Engineering New Zealand therefore needs 800 STEM professionals for the network of Wonder Project Ambassadors.

Then specific Rocket Challenge training gives you lots of tips for engaging with kids on tricky subjects like Newton's laws. There's no need to be a rocketry expert to get involved. There is also an online learning hub fir support with seven modules that guide you, teachers and students.

It's easy to get involved – simply sign up online at wonderproject.nz/rocket- challengeinfo/. Engineering New Zealand will get in touch to discuss what's involved, get you to complete a criminal conviction declaration, and get you started with online training. You will then be matched with a local participating school.

The challenge takes students two hours per week for 6– 8 weeks to complete, but you only need to be available for one hour a week.
