Matt Mccon­nell with Jo Gamvros, Hardie Grant Pub­lish­ing, $55 It all be­gan with a de­li­cious aroma, waft­ing out of a bar in Barcelona. The smell was tuna-filled em­panadas, the bar was La Pineda, and the Aussie pair who fol­lowed their noses are this book’s au­thors. Chef Matt and hos­pi­tal­ity vet­eran Jo loved not just La Pineda, but Span­ish bars in gen­eral, with their fresh, lo­cally sourced food. They went on to open their own es­tab­lish­ment, Bar Lour­inhã in Mel­bourne, and this book is a se­lec­tion of cus­tomer favourites. From tapas such as Rab­bit Em­panadil­las to ‘dul­ces’ such as Torta Naranja and Pome­gran­ate Crema, there’s much to rel­ish here. Pour your­self a jerez and en­joy.
