BEYOND THE CEILING
Connect, Inform, Change. That’s the mantra of Women in Wine, set up after not one woman came forward for the 2016 elections for the NZ Winegrowers board. “Considering there are many talented women in the industry, this raised some questions,” says national co-ordinator Nicky Grandorge. The scheme’s twin aims are: to help women step up into leadership roles; and to encourage businesses in the industry to do all they can to help women into leadership roles. Networking is a key part of Women in Wine, and they have recently launched a mentoring programme where women from a wide range of roles are connected with others in the industry. Initially being run as a pilot scheme, the aim is to eventually open this up to men too. “Having an even balance of men and women in leadership roles offers a wider range of views when making important decisions, which can only strengthen our growing wine industry,” says Grandorge.
