You may be surprised to learn that Russian star ballerina Anna Pavlova, American writer and humourist Mark Twain and aviatrix Jean Batten all slept over at Napier’s Art Deco Masonic Hotel. Founded in 1861, the final stage of the hotel’s most recent refurbishment was completed this year, with three suites revamped and named in honour of the trio. The suites all have spacious bedrooms with luxe bedding and king-size beds, stylish ensuite bathrooms (with Molton Brown toiletries) and separate living rooms.
