New Zealand is get­ting its first taste of the global mez­cal bar trend with the open­ing of La Fuente Wine & Mez­cal in Auck­land. Of­fer­ing a mix of wines along­side ar­ti­san mez­cal – a dis­tilled al­co­holic drink made from the agave (or maguey) plant – and Mex­i­can-in­spired food, the bar is owned and op­er­ated by Mex­i­can­born som­me­lier Ed­mundo Far­rera. It will op­er­ate like a wine bar and shop where you can taste drinks be­fore buy­ing them to take home.
