Despite the challenges that COVID-19 continued to present in term 1, Tim Bray Theatre Company’s Youth Theatre classes have continued with fun and creativity for their students. Extraordinarily Creative – Holiday Programme and Weekly Drama Classes for neurodivergent students. During the holidays, from Tuesday April 19 - Friday April 22, Tim Bray Youth Theatre is offering a programme to introduce autistic and neurodivergent children and teens to their Extraordinarily Creative Drama Classes at Te Oro in Glen Innes.

Extraordinarily Creative classes launched in East Auckland in 2022 and have been running successfully in Unsworth Heights since early 2021.

Extraordinarily Creative tutors teach by the principles of Connect, Create, Collaborate and Care as underpinned by Mason Durie’s Four Pillars (physical health, spiritual health, family health, mental health). The conventional classroom is forgotten allowing tutors to connect with students in a truly unique and meaningful way. They create inclusive learning spaces fostering care, acceptance and focus on process

not product. Relationships in the classrooms grow organically and students are invited to collaborate and be their authentic selves.

‘‘The drama class has been the BEST thing I have ever signed my son up for. I have never seen him so excited to attend anything before.’’ -Monica C, EC parent.

Term 2 Extraordinarily Creative weekly drama classes begin the first week of May in Glen Innes (Thurs/fri) and Unsworth Heights (Tues/wed).

Regular Weekly Drama Classes in Term 2

Tim Bray Youth Theatre drama classes remain popular engaging students’ imaginations, sense of fun, story telling and character building in a supportive environment. Acting techniques and collaborative work gives students tools to express themselves creatively with confidence. Drama is also excellent for mental health and wellbeing.

‘‘These classes have been so wonderful for my daughter, she loves them, and has just blossomed in confidence, and ability.’’ Lisa, parent.

Term 2 classes start the first

week in May in Western Springs at The Auckland Performing Arts Centre (TAPAC).

Tim Bray Youth Theatre offers classes for five to 16 year olds on the North Shore in Takapuna and Browns Bay.
