- ELESHA EDMONDS

Police are warning parents to be cautious after reports of a man making indecent advances to young boys.

An investigation has been launched following a complaint of an older man approaching boys and making indecent proposals to them in Glen Innes.

Detective Zach Headifen, from the Auckland City Child Sexual Assault Team, says police think the man may have made several advances to young Maori and Pacific Island boys in the area.

The incidents have taken place in shopping areas, the library and the internet cafe, police say.

Headifen says police are aware of the identity of the man.

They are looking for information that may assist the investigation.

The man has been described as European, 65 years old with short grey hair and wearing glasses.

He has been seen wearing a Warriors NRL jersey.

There have also been sightings of him driving a green Nissan Pulsar around Glen Innes.

Police have sent out a letter to local schools in the area reminding them to call 111 immediately if they observe a male fitting this description.

They are also encouraging parents to remind students who are ‘‘approached or frightened’’ to tell a trusted adult.

The adult should ensure it is reported to police.
