Open days present an excellent opportunity to visit the New Zealand College of Chinese Medicine (NZCCM), talk with experienced staff, find out about the programmes you are interested in, seek information on future employment opportunities, see first-hand NZCCM’S excellent facilities, and to discuss your enrolment needs.

The change to Orange level under the Covid Protection Framework means NZCCM can expand what’s on offer at the Open Day.

Once again, NZCCM can offer visitors the chance to participate in a free acupuncture treatment in their teaching clinic and no longer are you required to be vaccinated against Covid to enrol in NZCCM study programmes.

These changes in government policy broaden the options available to prospective students and signal both a return to more normal times and new and growing opportunities to work in a respected profession in the health sector.

Indeed, the impacts of Covid 19 means growing interest in Chinese medicine treatments both locally and internationally.

The College offers highly rated programmes at diploma,

bachelor’s degree and master’s degree levels in Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and massage. The Bachelor of Health Science degree is offered as either a 3-year option (Acupuncture) or a 4-year option (Chinese medicine including acupuncture and herbal practise). The College recently received high commendation as the result of an NZQA monitoring visit for the delivery quality of its bachelor’s degree programme.

All programmes offer pathways to excellent job prospects providing health services to a

community with growing demand for new graduates to work in the industry. The College is proud of the quality of its programmes, the contributions made to health and wellbeing in local communities as well as to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) education in NZ.

The College is New Zealand’s highest rated NZQA approved TCM provider and is an internationally recognised high performing TCM Tertiary institution. The recent MOU with Zheng Jiang Chinese Medical University enables the establishment of a Chinese Medicine Centre and provides support in teaching, research and internship for the College and its students.

Graduates of the bachelor’s degree can qualify and register to be ACC registered acupuncturists. ACC statistics show there is a

steady growth in the numbers of ACC registered acupuncture

practitioners in New Zealand as well as high and growing demand for acupuncture services. It is foreseeable that a bachelor’s degree will be the registration benchmark for the Chinese Medicine regulation under HPCA Act 2003.

This month the first cohort of Master of Chinese Medicine students will graduate. Feedback about the quality of the degree

and great improvement in clinical practice from these graduates confirms the value of this master’s level study for each of them.

The College now seeks applicants for the next intake starting in July. This presents an excellent opportunity for current TCM practitioners to undertake this unique postgraduate programme which focuses strongly on linking research with evidence-based practice. The degree appeals to TCM graduates and practitioners wanting to extend and enhance their knowledge, skills and scope of practise and who look to develop new opportunities through acquiring Chinese medicine specialist skills.

The College looks forward to enrolling another cohort to undertake this unique and highly recognised and recommended post graduate programme.

The College is also offering the NZ Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation Massage level 5 for July intake. This course is delivered online by blended learning option and has proved very popular as it provides learners with great flexibility as to when and where they study.

English language programmes are available in July to enable students wishing to improve their English language skills and qualifications to pathway to degree and diploma study.

Special discounts and scholarships are offered to encourage people interested in making massage, acupuncture and Chinese medicine practise a career choice.
