Pro wrestling in the East
Panmure Community Centre is set for an evening of body slams, grappling and choker holds as Impact Pro Wrestling stages its first East Auckland show, Meltdown.
The epic family-friendly showdown is this Saturday, March 10, at 7-13 Pilkington Road, Panmure. Doors open at 6.30pm, and the wrestling matches commence from 7pm.
East Auckland wrestlers Oliver Griffin, Michael Richards and Mason Daniels are on the fight card.
Richards has recently returned from two successful tours in the United States, competing in the Ring of Honour and getting a tryout with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). As his homecoming goal, he has his sights set on the biggest prize in the country, the New Zealand heavyweight championship belt.
The Pakuranga local, who will be grappling against his former mentor and current champion Mr Burns, says ‘‘the match is a great moment for me. It will be my first match in Panmure, so it’s kind of a big deal.’’
Impact Pro Wrestling spokesman Benjamin Keen says the best thing about pro wrestling is the interactivity of it all.
‘‘Fans are encouraged to bring signs, start chants, boo the villains and cheer on the good guys.’’
Impact Pro Wrestling has been carrying out fight events in NZ for the past 15 years.
