INTERIOR MOTIVES
Bloom, a new series of wallcoverings and fabrics by Kiwi textile design house Emma Hayes, is a moody exploration of tone and scale. Its billowing, cloudlike shapes and mural-like repetitions recall the large, gestural landscapes of pre-eminent New Zealand painter Colin McCahon. An interest in the natural world can also be seen in the brand’s Tussock and Petals Pressed collections. The former’s neutral
palette and gentle sense of movement echo the grasslands of Central Otago, and the latter’s
juxtaposition of faded and saturated colour speaks to the sense of preservation inherent in
the art of flower pressing.
