TOOLS DOWN

-

The parade of advanced new tools never ceases, and beauty blenders have all but taken over the humble foundation brush, but heavy application that’s too precise can look mask-like. Going freehand with your fingers gives a relaxed, fresh-faced finish. Here are our favourite approaches:

• Estée Lauder creative director Violette is making a signature of blurred edges, using a ring finger to pat glimmer on the eyes and soften bold lipstick.

• For the anti-contoured eye, smudge a single cream shadow straight across lids.

• Mix a dab of liquid highlighter and foundation on the back of your hand, then apply over the face with both hands like you would a face cream, letting the warmth of your skin assist with blending. Swipe a stick blush or highlighter over cheekbones and tap into skin with your fingertips.
