BEHIND THE SCENES
A day in the life of the FQ team – heading to Piha for a fashion shoot
Much like a ‘no-makeup’ makeup look, there’s often a whole lot more to making something appear e ortless. For this issue, team FQ hit the road to Piha to shoot an exclusive H&M lookbook – suitcases lled to the brim with our favourites from the summer collection. Fashion editor Danielle Clausen shares an insider look at how the day went down.
6:30am: I head to the oce to pick up the clothes I’ve prepped and packed, as well as to meet our lovely model Jessica. Grab some takeaway co ees from Odettes (essential) and then hit the road out west.
7:30am: We’ve got an early call time to catch the beautiful morning light as it hits our location. Today we are lucky enough to be shooting in Under Pohutukawa, a house designed by Herbst Architects.
8am: Once the team has unpacked and set up, I touch base with our photographer Michael Rooke to talk through the concept of the day. Then our hair and makeup artist Sophy Phillips gets to work on transforming Jessica into a muse who’s fresh and bohemian.
8:30am: Time to get steaming and shoe taping, making sure the pieces look their best and are kept in tip-top shape. Mike explores the house to take some test shots – not a hard task in a place so stunning.
10am: Let’s do this! The rst shot of the day often takes the longest as everyone nds their rhythm and we work on nailing the vibe we want to continue through the photos for the rest of the shoot.
1pm: With some great pictures under our belt, we break for lunch. Mike pulls up ‘selects’ on his laptop screen, giving us a sense of how the concept is shaping up.
3pm: Sophy’s (questionable) jokes get the team laughing as we hit the home straight.
5pm: That’s a wrap! We round out the last shot of the day with high-ves and then get stuck into pack down.
