The faces behind the issue
TAYI TIBBLE
@paniaofthekeef
There’s clearly something in the water, with a wave of talented young Kiwi poets making an impact here and overseas – including Wellington writer Tayi Tibble, who published her first collection of poems,
Poūkahangatus, last year. She writes about women and power in ‘Message to my Girls’ on page 100.
JESSICA CLARKE
@roimata
Model Jessica
Clarke lives in London, but was back in New Zealand for the summer when we captured her for our cover. What does the former
Tatler covergirl love most about her childhood home? “The chill vibes and Kiwis in general – such down-toearth and easygoing people.”
JESSICA BERESFORD
@jessberes
Writer Jessica Beresford grew up in West Auckland and now lives in London’s Bethnal Green. Recently appointed fashion features editor for the Financial Times’ luxury supplement
How to Spend It, for us she explores the complicated background of fashion’s modesty trend on page 109.
RACHEL MORTON
@racheljmorton
Rachel Morton brought her elegant touch to our ‘Well Done’ fashion shoot starring Jessica Clarke on page 106. It was a homecoming of sorts, with the stylist and mother of two having previously worked as
fashion and creative editor for more than a decade.
HARRIET WERE
@harrywere
Who better to photograph the season’s standout knits (page 136) on Auckland’s wild West Coast than Harriet Were? Known for her carefree images captured on film, she’s worked with the likes of Karen Walker and Lonely. She also runs a business selling handknits (Marc Jacobs’ dog recently wore one of her pieces), and flew to Antarctica soon after her FQ shoot.
VERONICA CROCKFORDPOUND
@_pictvre_
Videographer and model Veronica Crockford-Pound was the obvious choice to showcase Kate Sylvester’s new art-inspired collection on page 36, having grown up with an art historian and curator father and a gallerist mother. As well as appearing in front the camera, she filmed behind-thescenes video from our other fashion shoots for Instagram.
