MORNING ROUTINE With conscious makeup guru Emma Peters
Makeup artist Emma Peters has been conscious of supporting her health and that of the planet throughout her 20 years in the industry, and as the founder of natural cosmetics brand Aleph Beauty, she’s now making an eco-conscious mark of her own. Juggling l
Iwake up at 5am, which is almost two hours earlier than the rest of the family. I’ve got two girls, a five-year-old and a 10-year-old, so I’ve got to be vigilant about having that time before they get up. Otherwise I miss out on my routine, which sets me up for the rest of the day and makes me a much more pleasant person to be around, I’m sure! As soon as I get up, I make myself comfortable in the lounge to do about 10 minutes of breath work and 30 to 40 minutes of meditation. When I’ve finished that, I check my sleep-monitoring app (I use
Oura Ring) to see my sleep stats and work out what type of morning exercise to do according to how good (or not) my sleep was the night before. I’ll rotate combinations of high-intensity training, yoga and strength training for 20 minutes, or on the weekend I’ll go to an early hot yoga class.
I grab a quick shower before the kids wake up. Before jumping in I prep my skin with Corbin Rd Restorative Cleansing Balm, then wash it off in the shower with one of their Silk Exfoliating Cloths. They’re a nice rough silk cloth which exfoliates the skin beautifully. I wash my hair a couple of times
a week with the Beauty Dust Co Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner, which are 100 percent natural and smell and feel amazing.
To moisturise my face, I’m currently using an iteration of our Aleph Beauty Serum/Primer; I’m still finalising the formulation so I’m experimenting with different versions.
Then I’ll do super-quick makeup using our Aleph Beauty Concealer/Foundation applied with our diffuser brush, then apply a bit of Aleph Beauty Cheek/Lip
Tint. I love a simple monochromatic look, so I’ll usually use the same colour on both cheeks and lips.
On the eyes, I lightly smudge a bit of Eye of Horus pencil around the lash line and use their Bio Lash mascara and a brow pencil by The BrowGal. This is my basic daily makeup which takes me less than five minutes, it would be a bit of a disaster if I spent any longer than that, as the girls are up by then and need help getting ready for school.
I make lunch for the kids and smoothies for the whole family for breakfast. We use almond milk (in an ideal world I make my own, but these days with so much on, it’s a bought one!), blueberries, bananas and Nutra Organics berry hemp protein powder. I take my supplements with my smoothie too. They vary but there are a few constants, such as Tru Niagen, which helps support healthy skin, collagen and elastin levels.
Then we’re out the door for the bus-stop run and back home to get to work. I start the work day by making a Bulletproof coffee for my husband and me, then we sit down to do any daily planning or higher-level strategising. Jim is a digital marketing consultant and he handles all of Aleph’s digital marketing.
The rest of the day is packed with all things related to the running of Aleph and the workday stops when the girls get home from school.
