AROUND THE CLOCK

-

Because we are living in a multihyphenate world, we ask some of the busiest women we know how they get the most out of their time management.

INTERVIEWS BY JESSICA-BELLE GREER

TARYN KLJAKOVIC

Head of marketing at Sony Music NZ, founder of Women’s Collective and OK Now Ladies

“I have been working in the entertainment industry for 10 years and managing my time is hugely important because being effective, not just busy, is critical. It can be so easy to get pulled in every direction of daily work life so I set ‘rocks’ at the beginning of each day, these are three to four tasks that absolutely have to be done by the end of the day and cannot move. This occasionally means I get up at 5.30am or go to bed at 11pm to ensure they get done. I’ll do whatever it takes and in my experience, that’s what it takes to be successful at anything you commit to – perseverance and managing your time to be effective, not just busy.”

GOLRIZ GHAHRAMAN

Green Party MP

“I love that my work is amazingly diverse. One minute I’m reading policy documents or meeting with a minister, next I’m speaking with school children or human rights activists, then racing to speak in Parliament. The way to maintain that pace but stay healthy is to schedule downtime and eating time as if it were a meeting or speech.”

LILY TAURAU

Mai FM radio host

“I find it’s always easier for me to see visually what I need to get done first, then I organise by priority and schedule. I love productivity apps that help me do this, like Google Calendar and Swipes.”

ZOE WALKER AHWA

Editor of Fashion Quarterly “Almost a decade working at a weekly magazine taught me epic efficiency. I’m a big fan of to-do lists (I need something physical rather than digital), and

I try to approach each activity by deciding at the start how much time and energy I really need to give it. As a writer, it’s easy to overanalyse and spend too much time on things – but I’ve found that the key is knowing at what point to let something go.”
