COLOUR ME PRETTY

With a brand-new head of babylights, Lucy Slight puts Moroccanoil’s latest colour-care range to the test to see how the products stack up.

It had been almost six months since my last cut and colour, so a recent visit to the hair salon saw all my old blonde balayage chopped off to the collarbones and I opted instead for some far more subtle, face-framing babylights to add depth and brightness. One key issue I’ve always had with highlights is that they tend to go brassy very quickly and yellow locks just ain’t the look I’m after, to be honest.

Moroccanoil’s new Color Complete collection promises to deliver superior results when it comes to colour protection, so there was no better time to embark on a road test. I long ago started trying to avoid sulphates in my hair and body care, so the fact that the Color Continue Shampoo is sulphate free earned it a big tick right off the bat.

The gentle surfactant blend that has been used instead is designed to thoroughly cleanse without all the foam, while providing the optimum pH level for coloured hair. I recommend opting for a double cleanse if you like your shampoo on the foamy side, as the second rinse helps create more of a traditional lather. Next, of course, comes conditioner and I love that the Moroccanoil Color Continue Conditioner is a perfect not-too-thick, not-too-thin consistency – the type that feels like it’s infusing your hair with goodness, but won’t weight it down.

Both the shampoo and conditioner contain ArganID, exclusive Moroccanoil technology that uses the power of ionic attraction to infuse argan oil into the cortex of the hair for deep nourishment, while helping to repair and seal for optimal colour retention. Likewise, Colorlink technology acts as a protective shield to prevent colour washout, which is particularly good if you regularly dye rather than bleach your locks.

When it comes to leave-in treatments I’m incredibly fussy. Although I have a lot of hair, it’s also very fine, so it can easily get weighed down by product. The Moroccanoil Protect & Prevent Spray is practically weightless – once it’s on, there’s not even a hint of residue, so it’s an instant hit for me.

This product is formulated to specifically tackle my main hair-colour concern – brassiness – and acts as a leave-in shield to protect against colour oxidisation.

Used together, the range addresses all the daily environmental stressors that cause hair colour to fade and become brassy. After 10 washes, the Color Complete collection is scientifically proven to extend colour life and vibrancy by 100 percent and after only a couple of weeks I can already see my subtle highlights looking brighter, rather than fading into my natural colour.

Make it even more impactful by treating yourself to the ChromaTech service at your next professional colour appointment for a full 360° approach. The service includes Moroccanoil ChromaTech Prime, which helps to soothe, calm and nourish a sensitive scalp during the colour process; and Moroccanoil ChromaTech Post, formulated to repair damaged hair following the colour service and seal the cuticle for maximum colour longevity.
