The Globe wraps up 2021 with a jam-packed few weeks, and a bit of something for everyone this December.

December 1

Alliance Francaise: Cafe´ Scientifiq­ue, 7pm, features a ‘‘big gun’’ on food technology advances: Professor Richard Archer will present on ‘High Technology meets Food Processing’.

December 2

The Comedy Hub have a busy month lined up with three shows in the space of two weeks. On December 2 they will present one of their popular open-mic nights, MC’d by Jamie Verney. Entry $5 on the door, show starts 7.30pm.

December 3

The final showcase of the year from Altitude Pole and Fitness.

December 4

Kristin Reilly Dance presents the end-of-year performanc­e,

Night at the Movies, an evening of dance inspired by movie soundtrack­s.

December 5

A busy first week wraps up with Crows Feet Dance Collective presenting Carmina Burana at 5pm. Featuring 45 dancers from the four Crows groups – Wellington, Kapiti Coast, Lower Hutt and Palmerston North – the dance style is contempora­ry with movement vocabulary references to European folk dance, connecting to the music’s medieval themes, danced to the fantastic score by Carl Orff!

December 10 & 11

There are only a handful of tickets left for Mr Lola Illusion’s final appearance at The Globe for 2021 when The Boom Boom Room Burlesque present: The Ritz.

Witness the satin sheet seduction of Costa DeMillion. Thrill to the dark passions of Havana Ciggaro. Check out Papillion as she checks in, get trolleyed with Lola the bell boy and be scandalise­d by Hollie Berry’s turn down service. Set in the most decadent hotel and inspired by the wild prohibitio­n era parties that took place there, The Boom Boom Room Burlesque Hotel is open and waiting for you. Room service anyone? Shows

December 11

The Stand Up For Sign Language show, presented by the Comedy Hub in partnershi­p with Deaf Aotearoa, will be performed by a talented lineup of deaf and hearing comedians. They will perform in a mixture of English and New Zealand Sign Language. But fear not! The show will be ably supported by two interprete­rs, so whether your first language is spoken or signed, you will have a great time.Come along and witness the gift of comedy, as it takes a wrecking ball to the reinforced concrete of mutual incomprehe­nsion. Or if you prefer, come, have a laugh, and help support NZSL and Deaf Aotearoa. Featuring the talented MC Candice David of Deaf Aotearoa, and a menagerie of deaf and hearing comic talent.

December 12

Reschedule­d from September, the Globe is delighted to finally welcome Chamber Music New Zealand’s production of Another Night in Vienna. Donald Armstrong, associate concertmas­ter for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, leads members of the Amici Ensemble and 2020 NZCT Chamber Music Contest winners Ravelation, blending letters, ephemera and chamber music into a dramatic journey through one of the world’s most important cities during one of its most fascinatin­g periods. Don’t miss what promises to be a fantastic show at 5pm.

December 16

Comedy Hub’s final show of the month will be their 2021 Comedy Awards at 7.30pm.

December 17

One of New Zealand’s finest saxophonis­ts, Frank Talbot, brings a range of influence in his compositio­ns. As a big fan of varying genres including jazz, classical, heavy metal and funk, and having performed and recorded with indie artists, prog bands, modern metal projects and pop/funk outfits, he has a versatile range while remaining steeped in tradition. This concert of original jazz music is certainly one not to miss.

December 17 & 18

The month wraps up early for Christmas with presentati­ons from both the senior and junior students of The Rose Academy. With a performanc­e from each on both nights. The junior students perform Winter Wonderland, while the seniors dive into The Mystery of the Silver Slippers.
