‘‘There is still a keen interest in printed material. In the sort of age in digital books and Kindles, people still like to have something solid and tangible in their hands.’’

The Pukekohe Monster Book Sale is back.

Returning for its 14th time, the annual Monster Book Sale, run by Rotary Club Pukekohe, will have more than 40,000 books on sale at the Pukekohe RSA, on October 12 until October 14.

Along with books, there are also vinyls, CDs and a range of specialist books such as a leatherbound poem book called

which project manager Norman Foote said had value of around $150. There are also highly sought-after magazines.

There is also a Rod Stewart record, which Foote described as being an item of interest that will rock and roll it’s way out of the building fairly quickly.

‘‘There is still a keen interest in printed material.

‘‘In the sort of age in digital books and Kindles, people still like to have something solid and tangible in their hands,’’ Foote said.

All ordinary books, which range from dictionarys to Patricia Cornwell novels, will all be priced at $3, while speciality books could fetch a little more.

Foote added that the Monster Book Sale was an all-round boom for the community.

‘‘It seems to fill a need in the community for people to purchase good quality books at a cheap price.

‘‘We are totally dependant on the community. We are grateful for the members of the public for their donations,’’ said Foote.

The money raised from the event will be put back into ‘‘worthy projects in the community’’.

The organisation plans to raise over $10,000 - on par with what was raised at last year’s event.

Along with cash, eftpos machines will be available to purchase your book, or books, of choice.

In previous years, specialist books have sold for up to $150.

Last year the club was lucky enough to have had a leatherbound book, similar to the Tennyson’s book, filled with poems that sold for $600.
