FAST swimmers show speed
It’s been a successful few weeks for some members of Patumahoebased (FAST) Fulton Amateur Swimming Team representing their schools in recent events.
Swimmers competed in the Anchor AIMS Games held in Tauranga and the New Zealand Secondary School Swimming Champs in Hamilton.
Some of the highlights of the secondary school champs included Libby Murphy from ACG Strathallan who picked up a gold in the 200m individual medley, silver in 200m butterfly and bronze in 200m freestyle.
Libby finished top 10 in seven other races and was ranked third across 13-year-old-girl swimmers in New Zealand.
Nathan Hickmott from Pukekohe High School won gold in 100m freestyle, bronze in 200m freestyle and 200 individual medley while also finishing in the top 10 in six other races.
From this, he was ranked at the top 14-year-old male swimmer in the country.
Also from Pukekohe High School, Blake Elliott finished in the top 10 in nine races and, alongside Nathan, won a silver and a bronze medal in the relays representing the school.
Shontelle Dally from Waiuku College had a personal best in the 50m freestyle and competed in six races.
In the AIMS Games, which had competitors from intermediate schools throughout the country, four swimmers from the club represented the schools.
Pukekohe Intermediate’s Mikaela Hawley finished fourth in the 100m butterfly and sxith in the 50m backstroke while Ethan Langit placed ninth in the 50m backstroke, and Leon Duke came fourth in the 200m backstroke.
Ryan McConnell from Te Hihi School had a personal best in the 50m breaststroke.
