Jockey Alysha Collett set for Singapore

- MICHELLE SABA

Pukekohe Park based jockey Alysha Collett will shortly be leaving our shores to ride in Singapore, but in the meantime she is making sure she keeps up her winning streak.

In the past week she kicked home four winners, including a treble at the Avondale Jockey Club meeting on Anzac Day.

Combining with Byerley Park trainer Steven Cole, she rode a double commencing with Navrick to win a rating 65 2100 event.

She settled the gelding just off the pace throughout the race and challenged in the straight to get up and win by a long head.

It was win number three for the Captain Sonador four-yearold who is raced by Cole and his father David. They also shared in the ownership of Oh Cee Dee who won a well-deserved maiden 1200.

Racing fresh up the threeyear-old Power gelding had run five placings in his previous preparation, but in his first start since November he was able to get up and win by a neck.

Collett’s third winner was in the Governor General’s Cup on the Stephen McKee trained Bella Court, who races in Kevin Hickman’s famous gold silks with a navy cap. It was the fourth win for the Per Incanto mare.

To finish off the week Collett won another Per Incanto this time at the Cambridge Jockey Club meeting at Te Rapa.

Star Performance, trained by Byerley Park trainer Danny Walker, certainly put up a star performance when she blitzed a field of fellow two-year-olds to win by two and a quarter lengths.

Collett will ride at the Counties meeting on Friday, before heading to the Gold Coast, and then returning home to pack her bags for Singapore to ride for Donna Logan for six months.

Harking back to Avondale, Byerley Park trainers Peter and Dawn Williams and Karen Zimmerman also recorded winners at Avondale.

Zimmerman won with a staying maiden Mod Maude, owned by Drury couple Ali and Graeme Andrews. Whereas the Williams stable produced the very smart Media Sensation to win again.

A two-year-old filly by I Am Invincible, she was very impressive in winning the feature two-year-old event the NZB Pearl Series 1200.

Another Counties winner at Avondale was Switch In Time from the Tiley Stables. A fouryear-old by the highly underrated stallion Remind, having his fourth career start when he easily won a maiden 1600.

On to Saturday at Te Rapa, the Richard Collett trained mare Cinematic completed a hat-trick when she won over 1200 metres, and gave the Collett apprentice Kavish Chowdhoory his second winning ride.

This Friday’s race will be at Pukekohe Park, with the Counties Racing Club industry day commencing at 12.27pm with the last at 4.47pm.
