A younger cousin of mine visited Auckland from Christchurch and was our guest for the weekend.
It was her for first time in the City of Sails so we endeavoured to show her as much as we could during her brief stay in the country’s busiest city.
A highlight of our tour was heading up to the top of the Sky Tower to enjoy the spectacular views of greater Auckland.
I’ve been up the tower a few times, and each trip to the top never ceases to amaze me - the sheer height of it is an engineering masterpiece, how they manage to construct buildings of this magnitude is beyond me.
We enjoyed a leisurely lift to the viewing deck in an elevator - not like the hundreds of firemen and women who will climb to the top later this month, using the stairs, to raise money for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand.
A team from Tuakau are up for the challenge, you can read all about their preparation in James’ story on P3.
And we’ll be bringing you stories on the other brigades taking part over the next few weeks.
