Would you like to see your artwork on council library cards?
Waikato District Council wants locals to design its new library cards as part of its Matariki celebrations.
The Waikato District Libraries Matariki competition opened Monday, and this year people can design a library card or write a poem. The age categories are 5-9 years old, 10-15 years old and 16 years and over. People will need to submit their library card design or poem by June 15.
‘‘The winning designs will be used as our new library cards while the winning poems will be displayed in our libraries and offices,’’ said customer delivery manager Angela Parquist.
‘‘We love promoting our communities and this is an opportunity to showcase their talent. It’s also a great way to celebrate Matariki, which is a very special time of year.
‘‘It was fantastic to see 626 entries last year. We’re hoping to get even more than that this year.’’
You can pick up an entry form at Meremere and Tuakau libraries or download a form from www.waikatodistrict.govt.nz/ matariki
A prize-giving will be held in the council chambers in July.
