Would you like to see your art­work on coun­cil li­brary cards?

Waikato District Coun­cil wants lo­cals to de­sign its new li­brary cards as part of its Matariki cel­e­bra­tions.

The Waikato District Li­braries Matariki com­pe­ti­tion opened Mon­day, and this year peo­ple can de­sign a li­brary card or write a poem.The age cat­e­gories are 5-9 years old, 10-15 years old and 16 years and over. Peo­ple will need to sub­mit their li­brary card de­sign or poem by June 15.

‘‘The win­ning de­signs will be used as our new li­brary cards while the win­ning po­ems will be dis­played in our li­braries and of­fices,’’ said cus­tomer de­liv­ery man­ager An­gela Par­quist.

‘‘We love pro­mot­ing our com­mu­ni­ties and this is an op­por­tu­nity to show­case their tal­ent. It’s also a great way to cel­e­brate Matariki, which is a very spe­cial time of year.

‘‘It was fan­tas­tic to see 626 en­tries last year. We’re hop­ing to get even more than that this year.’’

A prize-giv­ing will be held in the coun­cil cham­bers in July.
