Supporting activities in Franklin

-

The Pukekohe Lions Club has been supporting the Franklin community for more than 53 years, backing local sports clubs, St John Ambulance, the Westpac Helicopter, life saving clubs and Franklin youth.

Next week, the club will make more substantial donations, totalling $22,400, to local groups to assist them in their activities.

The Pukekohe Lions have undertaken many activities for young people.

These include the Pukekohe Christmas Parade in conjunction with Pukekohe Rotary, the Young Ambassadors, the Peace Poster Programme, Young Speechmaker.

The Pukekohe Lions also provide substantial support for individuals, in a bid to help them achieve their goals.

However, the club’s membership is dwindling, and it is now looking to recruit more members who are interested in making a difference in the community.

Lions is an international organisation with a total membership of 1.3 million.

It is the largest service organisation in the world.

The Pukekohe Lions Club is hosting a special evening at the Pukekohe Cosmopolitan Club on Wednesday, May 23, at 7.30pm, where the club will distribute funds to worthy organisations in Franklin.

The club will also outline what membership of a Lions club involves and what the advantages are to being a member.

For further information about the event, or to express interest about becoming a member, email Peter, gardenpete@xtra.co.nz or phone 239 1235.
