Onewhero, Pukekohe face off for charity

- JULIE KAIO

Two Counties Manukau Rugby Union premier teams are preparing to take to the pitch all in the name of charity.

On Saturday, July 7, Onewhero will host Pukekohe, across the river for a match with a cause - to raise money for the Cancer Society of New Zealand.

The clash of the premier 1 sides will see all players donning specially commissioned jerseys, which will be auctioned at the after-match function with all funds going to the Cancer Society.

Organiser are hoping to raise up to $10,000.

It’s a cause close to Pukekohe coach, and co-organiser Mark Price, who lost his dad John to cancer last year.

Price said Pukekohe started a conversation with Rowena Massey of the Onewhero club, which had run fundraisers in the past, and the July 7 clash and the chosen charity were locked in.

The match will take place during the Union’s premier round, and will be the final game of the second round - so there’s a lot at stake - amongst pride - for both Onewhero and Pukekohe.

Following the big game, there’ll be a meal at the clubrooms, the jersey auction, raffles and an after-party with DJ.

Everyone is invited, even those who don’t usually follow club rugby.

If readers/businesses are keen to lend a hand with sponsorship of the event, the can contact Mark Price on 021 243 5503 or email mark@markpricebuilders.co.nz.
